Famous for our 1990 original design hand carved birthday countdown candle – the perfect birthday gift for a new baby. We also offer a beautiful hand carved anniversary countdown candle – a wonderful gift for newlyweds or a 25th anniversary celebration. OUR EXPERIENCE ~
Message from Diane…
As owner of this company I think you should know a little about my background and experience. I’ve been hand carving candles for over 30 years.
In 1990 I was taught by a gentleman who had just closed his candle shop (of many years) and was moving out of state. He was willing to share this beautiful art with me – and many well-kept secrets. His fee in 1990 was $1500 for a 40 hour week. For nearly 4 weeks he and I worked side-by-side, only breaking for lunch. We scrapped many, many center cores! Precision cutting, carving and speed can only come with many, many hours of practice and patience.
Wax Wizard Candles, the retail store opened for business the following month right next door to my Ceramic & Art Studio where I taught ceramic and art classes for more than 25 years – including hand-painting on porcelain china, porcelain doll making, pottery, slab clay work, hand-sculpted flowers, T-shirt painting, air-brushing, pen-n-ink drawing, water colors and more.
The brick and mortar storefront was closed in 1998 when I had a bout with cancer. During my recovery period is when I began developing the online candle shop.
Over the last 20+ years the site has grown and evolved as we’ve partnered with some great candle manufacturers and importers to offer a full line of quality candles – many hard-to-find candles and odd size candles – plus a beautiful line of unique beeswax candles.
